Directorate of Public Health
The directorate deals matter relating to control of epidemic and endemic diseases, immunization, health education, nutrition and other primary health issues.
FUNCTIONS
- Policy initiation and guidance to all public health programmes.
- Coordination of all public health interventions in the state, priority diseasesurveillance and response to outbreaks/epidemics.
- Co-ordinate all environmental, occupational and school health services in the state.
- Enforcement of Public Health laws and regulations
- Responsibility for the staff and activities at the Public Health offices inGeneral/Cottage Hospitals, and the Port Health unit at the Gombe International Airport.
- Inter-phase with all other MDAs, NGOs, and CSOs and Developmental Partners involved in activities, projects and programmes that promote health and / or preventdiseases.
- Assessment of Public Health programmes and projects.

ACHIEVEMENT
- Excellent performance with the routine surveillance KPIs
- Early detection, effective response and efficient control of various outbreaks of epidemic prone diseases and other priority conditions like Lassa fever, CSM, COVID -19, Rabies and cVDPV
- Establishment of a Public Health Laboratory at the SSH Gombe
- Establishment of isolation and treatment centres at the State Specialist Hospital, Kwadon.
- Functional rapid response teams at state and LGA levels
- Strategic reserve of commodities for immediate response to outbreaks most of the time with pre-positioning of laboratory and management kits for selected priority diseases
- Efficient Public Health Emergency Operations Centre currently with effective IMS for various outbreaks
- A functional Epidemic Preparedness and Response Committee.
- High level of collaboration with development partners
